DENTAL CARE FOR ALL AGES

Dental X-Ray Use and Safety

We use the latest X-ray technology, known as digital radiography, which uses an electronic sensor to capture and store digital images of your teeth. The process of digital radiography is quicker and more comfortable than the process of taking film X-rays, and it reduces radiation exposure by a significant amount.

The frequency and need for X-rays are based on medical and dental history, a dental exam, signs and symptoms, your child’s age, and risk of disease. Dental X-rays may reveal tooth related problems as well as other pathologies. Occasionally, life saving referrals are made to other specialists based on something your dentist was able to pick up on x-ray.

Esthetics

Tooth colored fillings are used to restore front or back teeth or where cosmetic appearance is important. Tooth colored fillings are used to repaired chipped teeth and areas of decay. Whether your child is 5 or 15, we want them to have a beautiful smile. Occasionally, we have to use some “silver” crowns for severely broken down teeth. Rest assured that these crowns are mercury free and only used for back teeth.

Preventative Care

We want every child to be cavity free. There are so many small things you can do to achieve this goal.

  • Dental Sealants: Sealants are extremely effective in preventing cavities in the grooves of the teeth. Technology allows us to make this appointment as quick and easy as a dental cleaning!
  • Fluoride: Fluoride works in a couple different ways to fight cavities and prevent new ones from happening.
  • Xylitol: Specific set of bacteria cause cavities. A natural sweetener, xylitol helps prevent cavities by targeting those bacteria.
  • Regular Dental Care: Most patients need cleanings and checkups an average of twice a year. Each persons dental needs are different. We will customize your child’s cleaning, fluoride, exam and xray schedule to minimize risks and maximize their health

Orthodontic Care

It’s never too early to keep an eye on your child’s oral development. As your pediatric dentist, we can identify misaligned teeth or bite problems and intervene to guide the teeth as your child’s mouth is growing. Orthodontic treatment early can prevent more extensive treatment later. This will save you money, save you time and allow your child to have confidence in their smile from a young age.

Emergency Dental Care & Dental Trauma

When your child needs urgent dental treatment, your pediatric dentist stands ready to help. Please keep the emergency number available and in a convenient location. (410) 987- CARE

Tooth Extractions

We want your child to be comfortable and have a healthy smile. With the proper treatment, teeth can be preserved for chewing food and maintaining proper space for permanent teeth, as well as helping your child to preserve a healthy, happy smile. If a tooth does need to come out, we can determine whether or not that space needs to be maintained until the permanent tooth erupts in its place.
